Andragogy is a term that refers to the education of adults. The word comes from the Greek ἀνδρ- (andr-), meaning "man", and ἀγωγός (agogos), meaning "leader of". Therefore, andragogy literally means "leading man", whereas "pedagogy" literally means "leading children". The term first used by German educator Alexander Knapp in 1833 and gained traction again in 1984 with the further exploration of American educator Malcolm Knowles.
